No threat of militant attack on 'February 21': DMP Commissioner

There is no threat of a militant attack on February 21, 'International Mother Language Day and Martyrs' Day', said Sheikh Sajjat Ali, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday (February 20), the Commissioner discussed the security arrangements at the Central Shaheed Minar.

He confirmed that multiple layers of security have been implemented around the monument and that the gates would open for the public at 12:40am from the Palashi side.

Visitors had been advised to keep their mobile phones, wallets, and belongings at their own risk during the rally.

The DMP Commissioner also noted that police officers will oversee security until 2:00pm on February 21, with the traffic department involved in ensuring smooth operations.

Additionally, mobile teams of uniformed police, including detective officers, will start patrolling within a one-kilometer radius of Shaheed Minar from 8:00pm.
