No tolerance for mob justice, warns DMP Commissioner
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has issued a stern warning against any form of mob justice, emphasizing that such acts will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Speaking at a road safety event funded by JAICA held at the DMP headquarters on Tuesday, the commissioner responded to journalists’ queries by assuring that strict actions will be taken, even if police negligence is found in such cases.
Commissioner Sajjat Ali confirmed that an individual has been arrested in connection with the recent assault on former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda. A formal case has been filed regarding the incident.
The incident took place last Sunday when a group of people reportedly entered Nurul Huda’s residence in Uttara, forcibly removed him, and humiliated him by placing a garland of shoes around his neck. The victim was then handed over to the police. A video showing the assault, which included shoe-beating and egg-throwing, went viral on social media, revealing the presence of police personnel during the event.
The DMP Commissioner reiterated that such acts of mob justice undermine the rule of law and will face stringent consequences.
