Noakhali University Chhatra Dal unit dissolved after campus clash

The central committee of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal has dissolved the existing committee of its unit at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) following a clash between two factions on campus.

The central student wing of the BNP announced the decision in a press release signed by its office secretary, Jahangir Alam, on Tuesday (August 18).

It said a new committee for the university unit would be announced "as soon as possible."

The decision was approved by Chhatra Dal central president Rakibul Islam Rakib and general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, according to the statement.

Earlier on Tuesday, clashes broke out between two groups of Chhatra Dal activists at NSTU, triggering chases and counter-chases and reports of damage to rooms in a residential hall. The incident created tension across the campus.

The dissolution announcement came just hours after the clash.
