Nomination submission deadline will not be extended: EC

The Election Commission (EC) has ruled out any extension of the deadline for submitting nomination papers for the 13th National Parliament election and the referendum, both scheduled to be held on February 12.

Speaking to reporters at the Election Building in the capital around 5:30pm on Monday (December 29), EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the deadline would remain unchanged. “No, the time will not be extended,” he said when asked about a possible extension.

According to EC sources, Monday was the final day for political parties and candidates to submit nomination papers. Aspirants submitted their papers to returning officers at regional and district election offices across the country until 5:00pm.

The EC secretary said a consolidated update on the total number of nomination papers submitted nationwide would be shared after compilation, likely by 10:00pm.
