Not just Bogura, entire Bangladesh was deprived for 17 years: Tarique Rahman
BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said that not only Bogura but the entire country had been deprived over the past 17 years, pledging nationwide, inclusive development if his party wins the next general election.
He made the remarks while addressing an election rally at Altafunnessa Playground in Bogura on Thursday (January 29), organised by the district BNP.
Tarique Rahman said development would not be confined to a single district and stressed the need for balanced progress across all regions of the country. “We must think beyond our own areas and work for the overall advancement of Bangladesh,” he said.
Referring to his past political role, he said his current position differs from that of 2001–2006 and emphasised that future development planning must give equal importance to all districts.
He also alleged that large-scale corruption had taken place over the last 15–16 years in the name of mega projects and said the BNP would take measures to prevent corruption if voted to power. "Jobs and business opportunities would be ensured on the basis of merit," he added.
The rally marked Tarique Rahman’s visit to Bogura as part of the BNP’s election campaign after nearly two decades. Earlier, he addressed election rallies in Rajshahi, Naogaon and Joypurhat.
The rally was presided over by Bogura district BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha, with speeches by BNP leaders including Dr. Maudud Alamgir Pavel, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman and former MP Helaluzzaman Talukder. A special prayer was also held seeking divine mercy for former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
