Not just NESCO—nothing will be moved out of Rajshahi: Land Minister

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu has said that no government institution, including the Northern Electricity Supply Company (NESCO), will be relocated from Rajshahi, declaring that the city's interests outweigh any political office.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (August 5) after laying wreaths at the July Martyrs' Memorial in Rajshahi alongside senior district and divisional officials, Minu dismissed speculation over the possible relocation of NESCO.

"Not just NESCO—nothing will be moved out of Rajshahi. Neither a ministerial post nor an MP's seat is more important than Rajshahi. I was born here, and I will die here. No contractor will decide where government offices are located," he said.

The minister also reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting the families of those killed and injured during the July Mass Uprising, saying comprehensive medical care, long-term rehabilitation and financial security measures were being planned for victims and their families.

"The sacrifices of the martyrs and the spirit of the student-led movement will continue to guide our efforts to build a prosperous, democratic and discrimination-free Bangladesh," he said.

During the ceremony, the father of Shaheed Shakib Anjum demanded swift justice for his son's killing, urging authorities to ensure those responsible receive the maximum punishment.

Thousands of people gathered at the memorial throughout the morning to pay tribute, while authorities deployed heightened security across the site and the city to maintain law and order.
