Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has said to students that merely studying is not enough; the practice of integrity is also essential. One must grow up receiving proper education and values from an early age.

He made the remarks on Saturday (September 20) at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital, while addressing a programme organised for the inauguration of the new executive committee of the Brahmanbaria District Association, Dhaka, and the distribution of scholarships.

Dr Salehuddin said, "Due to a lack of integrity, many who became owners of thousands of crores of taka are now on the run. Therefore, one must learn the lesson of integrity from the very beginning of life."

The adviser said Brahmanbaria is known as a “land of heritage and harmony”, and Saturday’s programme reaffirmed that status. "Investing in education is not just about supporting students, it is about shaping the nation’s future," he added, noting that the unity and vision of Brahmanbaria residents in Dhaka towards progress had deeply inspired him.

He also said an initiative had been taken to establish a medical college in Brahmanbaria, as doctors often refuse to work outside Dhaka, with requests even coming from Keraniganj to remain in the capital.

He said Brahmanbaria remains an underdeveloped district, and its established citizens must step forward for its advancement.

Calling on district associations to work for collective interests rather than personal ones, he urged everyone from Brahmanbaria to be conscious about stopping infighting among themselves.

Brahmanbaria District Association, Dhaka, president MA Khalek said the district has long contributed political leaders, academics, and artists to the country. “Today we pledge that Brahmanbaria will be known for its talent and contributions, not for any negative image. With these scholarships and the inauguration of our new committee, we are sowing the seeds of civic pride that will inspire future generations,” he said.

In his welcome speech, general secretary of the association Md Khaled Hossain Mahbub Shyamal said, “Today’s gathering is not just a celebration but the beginning of a new movement — a movement to promote a positive image of Brahmanbaria in Bangladesh and worldwide. We will showcase our achievements in education, culture, and social development. I sincerely thank our donors, volunteers, and media friends for making this event memorable.”

At the programme, a total of 312 scholarships were awarded to meritorious students in higher education — 25 at the Honours level, 182 at the HSC level, and 105 at the SSC level. Organisers said the scholarships would encourage the younger generation of Brahmanbaria to pursue academic excellence.

The event concluded with a captivating cultural performance showcasing Brahmanbaria’s rich heritage.
