'Nouka' aspirants escaped to India, 'Dhaner Shish' remains with people: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that for a long time, Bangladesh’s politics has revolved around electoral competition between BNP’s paddy sheaf and Awami League’s boat symbols. However, in this election, there will be no boat, as its main helmsman has left everyone behind and gone to India.
He made the remarks on Monday, November 10, while addressing an election exchange meeting as the chief guest at Bardeshwari Field in Thakurgaon Sadar.
Addressing the supporters and voters of the boat, Fakhrul said, “There is nothing to be disappointed about. The paddy sheaf is with you. As long as we live, no one will be able to touch you.”
He further said that the people of the country have yet to fully understand the proportional representation (PR) system, yet the eight government-backed parties are trying to impose it on the public. At the same time, there are conspiracies to delay the election under the pretext of a referendum.
Fakhrul said, “Win the election first, then implement PR. If any system is forced upon the people, BNP will not accept it.”
