NU issues strict guidelines to tackle cheating in honours 1st year exams
Ahead of the National University Honours 1st Year Examination 2024, the university has introduced new strict directives to prevent cheating during exams.
According to a notice signed by Examination Controller Md. Enamul Karim, any evidence of cheating must be properly preserved and marked in red ink. If a student is caught cheating, their answer scripts and evidence will be identified with red ink, and the student’s attendance sheet will be marked “Expelled.” The reasons for expulsion must be detailed in a report form, and the answer scripts of expelled candidates must be packed separately.
Invigilators are instructed to verify that students fill in their roll numbers, registration numbers, and subject codes correctly on OMR forms. If incorrect or missing, “Absent” must be written in red ink in the appropriate section.
All answer sheets and OMR forms must be carefully organized and packed according to bundles in corrugated boxes, wrapped in polythene and purple cloth, and labeled with exam code 2201. Expelled candidates’ papers should be separately packed and marked “Expelled” in red ink.
Daily attendance sheets showing present, absent, and expelled candidates must be sealed and stored securely at colleges. The university may request these sheets at any time for verification.
Answer scripts will be sent to Md. Abdus Samad, Acting Additional Controller of the Honours 1st Year Branch, in separate packets.
Attendance sheets will be prepared online based on the university’s official candidate list. Invigilators will verify candidates’ identities by comparing registration card photos with their faces and ensure subject and paper codes on answer sheets are correct. Candidates must sign the attendance sheets, and no duplicate attendance sheets for a single candidate are allowed.
Within seven days after exams conclude, attendance sheets must be bound into books and submitted to the relevant branch.
The directive also states that incorrect OMR forms do not need to be packed separately but must be securely wrapped and stored at the exam center according to the schedule.
These steps aim to uphold exam integrity and ensure a fair assessment process.
