Number of arrests rises to 20 in joint operation in Gopalganj
Gopalganj has been under a curfew since Wednesday night following a day-long clash related to the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) rally and procession. The local administration has announced a joint operation in the area to maintain law and order.
Mir Md. Sajedur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, confirmed that 20 people have been arrested so far during the operation conducted under curfew from Wednesday night to Thursday morning.
The detainees have been handed over to Gopalganj Sadar Police Station, and legal action against them is underway. Despite the unrest, the law and order situation in Gopalganj remains stable, according to the OC.
Due to the 22-hour curfew, which started at 8 PM on Wednesday, most shops from Gatepara to Launchghat remained closed on Thursday. However, rickshaw vans and some light vehicles were still seen on the roads, though public presence was minimal. Police vehicles were patrolling across the city to ensure security.
