Nur served show cause notice over alleged violation of election code
Parliamentary candidate for Patuakhali-3 constituency, Golachipa-Dashmina, Nurul Haque Nur has been served a show cause notice seeking an explanation over alleged violation of election code and electoral offences.
The letter was issued by civil judge Sabbir Md Khalid of the Barishal election inquiry and judicial committee responsible for the constituency.
Nurul Haque, president of Gono Odhikar Parishad and former vice-president of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union, DUCSU, has been backed by BNP in the Patuakhali-3 seat. BNP rebel leader Md Hasan Mamun is contesting the seat as an independent candidate.
The notice said Nurul Haque has been spreading false, baseless and misleading information about independent candidate Hasan Mamun on social media during election campaigning, violating clauses 15(a) and 16(g)(ch) of the Political Parties and Candidates Code of Conduct 2025.
It also alleged that supporters of Nur vandalised the election office of Hasan Mamun at Pagla Bazar Shelter, Charborhan, at 8pm, January 26, and injured activists and supporters, violating clause 6(a) of the code. The notice asked why legal action should not be taken against him and a report sent to the Election Commission.
Nurul Haque has been asked to appear in person or submit a written explanation through a representative at the temporary office of the election inquiry and judicial committee at the senior judicial magistrate court in Dashmina, Patuakhali at 11:30am, February 3.
