Nur was attacked with the intent to kill: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, was attacked with the explicit intent to kill.

Speaking to reporters at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Tuesday afternoon, Fakhrul said, “Whoever was behind the attack, it was clearly meant to kill Nur. This is beyond doubt.”

Commenting on Nur’s medical condition, Fakhrul added, “While Nur’s condition has shown some improvement, he remains critical. The injuries he sustained are severe and potentially fatal, including brain injury and internal bleeding. After consulting with doctors, I can confirm there was no negligence in his treatment here. However, he is still unable to eat normally and is being fed liquids through a tube. His recovery is slow, and he needs advanced treatment abroad.”

Fakhrul criticized law enforcement agencies for their continued aggression, saying, “If our leaders are attacked like this even after the uprising, one can only imagine the plight of ordinary citizens. I cannot accept such actions under any circumstances.”

He further called for swift judicial action, urging, “The investigation ordered by the chief advisor must be completed promptly and necessary measures taken. The government should immediately arrange for Nur’s treatment overseas.”
