Nur's threatening video: Condemnation from BPSA
The Bangladesh Police Service Association has strongly reacted after a video of Nurul Haque Nur, President of the Gono Odhikar Parishad, making threatening remarks against the police spread on social media.
In a statement released on Saturday (May 24), the Association said that during a public gathering on May 22, Nur stated, “If the police of this interim government lay a hand on us — that hand will not remain intact. Let me be clear, just as in Jatrabari the public beat the police and hung them from the bridge, if any leader or activist of Gono Odhikar Parishad is touched, the same will be done again.”
The statement described such threats against the police as 'unacceptable and a criminal offense'. Signed by Dr. Md. Nazmul Karim Khan, President of the Police Service Association, and Md. Anisuzzaman, its General Secretary, the statement emphasized, “Bangladesh Police is an essential part of a democratic state and has always carried out its duties with dedication in maintaining law and order.”
According to the Association, Nur’s remarks are a deliberate attempt to demoralize the police force and damage its reputation. They believe such statements have been made with the intention of serving the interests of certain groups and could be aimed at disturbing public order.
The statement further added, “The Bangladesh Police Service Association strongly condemns and protests this kind of provocative and discipline-violating speech. Such hateful remarks will only create confusion in society and disrupt peace on the path to building a democratic Bangladesh.”
