Nurse dies with measles symptoms in Sylhet

A 22-year-old nurse has died in Sylhet while undergoing treatment for measles symptoms. She breathed her last at the ICU of Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital around 9:30am on Monday (June 1).

The deceased young woman is a resident of Bishwambharpur upazila of Sunamganj. She was working as a midwifery intern at the Companyganj Upazila Health Complex in Sylhet.

Hospital sources said that she had been suffering from measles symptoms for a few days. When her condition deteriorated, she first sought treatment at a private hospital in Sylhet. Later, she was admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital and kept in the ICU on Sunday afternoon. She died there this morning.

The hospital's resident medical officer Dr. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the death and said that doctors tried their best to save her, but in the end it was not possible. Necessary tests are still underway to confirm the specific cause of death.
