Nurses caught cooking inside operation theatre in Feni hospital

Nurses and medical staff has been caught cooking traditional snacks (pithas) on gas stoves inside an operating theatre in Feni General Hospital.

This activities triggered widespread outrage after a video circulated on social media showing cooking activities and unrestricted movement of patients’ relatives inside the operation theatre, even during surgical procedures.

According to the video, some senior nurses have been seen using gas stoves inside the operation theatre where caesarean sections are performed daily.

Later in face of criticism, hospital authorities on Thursday (January 8) formed a three-member investigation committee and asked it to submit a report within five working days. Senior consultant and assistant director Dr. Jalal Uddin has been made convener, with surgery consultant Dr. Adnan Ahmed as a member and resident medical officer Dr. Shoaib Imtiaz Niloy as member secretary.

Dr. Niloy said cooking inside an operation theatre is “completely unacceptable” and he assured a thorough investigation. Hospital Superintendent Dr. Saiful Islam said strict departmental action would be taken if the allegations are proven.

Patients’ relatives have voiced strong anger over the incident. Irene Akter, a service recipient, said the situation made them feel unsafe, calling it a serious example of mismanagement in a government hospital.
