Nurul Haque Nur collects nomination for Patuakhali-3

Gono Odhikar Parishad president Nurul Haque Nur will contest the 13th national parliamentary election from Patuakhali-3 constituency.

On Wednesday afternoon, nomination papers were collected on Nur’s behalf from Dashmina upazila assistant returning officer and UNO Md Saiful Islam by party leaders and relatives.

Leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad from different levels were present during the process.

Senior vice-president of Dhaka North unit of Gono Odhikar Parishad and Nur’s brother-in-law Md Mizan Howlader said the party plans to field candidates independently in three constituencies, though a final decision on alliances has not yet been made.

Meanwhile, ahead of the upcoming election, BNP has announced that it has left eight more seats for alliance partners and like-minded parties.

At a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement.

He said candidates under electoral arrangements will contest using their own party symbols. BNP has expressed support for Nurul Haque Nur in Patuakhali-3.
