Oath taking of interim government as per the constitution was a mistake: Farhad Mazhar
Poet and thinker Farhad Mazhar has observed that taking oath to form an interim government on August 8 last year in accordance with the constitution was a mistake.
The 'July mass uprising' is linked to the history of the anti-colonial, anti-imperialist struggle. No individual caused it. It was the result of a long struggle, said the thinker.
He said this at a roundtable discussion titled 'Equality, human dignity and social justice in the constitutional reform proposal: What does the Quran say' at the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Saturday (May 17) afternoon.
Farhad Mazhar said that the complete victory of the 'mass uprising' has already led to a constitutional counter-revolution that has nullified the great sacrifices of the students and youth. The process of continuously suppressing the students by using various forms of propaganda is underway to nullify their efforts.
The discussion meeting was chaired by the organization's convener Abu Saeed Khan while the founder of The Iqra, Sadiq Mohammad Alam, moderated it.
It was addressed by National Citizen Party (NCP) senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, Abu Hena Razzaqi, Major (Retd.) Alamgir Hossain, Didarul Bhuiyan, Ashraful Islam and Rufaidah Panni.
Farhad Mazhar said that as long as the youth do not present the correct narrative of the 'mass uprising', they will quarrel among themselves and some will throw bottles. They will destroy the whole thing. If they cannot protect the collective interests, they will have to be held accountable to the people.
Strongly criticizing the abuse of members of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission, he said that there may be objections to the proposal of the Women's Commission. But if someone is within Islamic decency, they cannot use abuse means. They are verbally abusing others. This is not the teaching of Islam. They should be punished.
