Oath-taking of lawmakers of reserved women’s seats today

The 50 new Members of Parliament (MPs) elected to the reserved seats for women will be sworn in today (February 28).

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will administer the oath-taking ceremony at 3:30pm at the Jatiya Sangsad in the capital.

According to sources in the Parliament Secretariat, the oath of office of Awami League MPs will be held first. After that, two members of the Jatiya Party will take the oath.

The sworn-in MPs will attend Wednesday's parliament session.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the Election Commission published the gazette with the names and addresses of these MPs from the women's constituencies.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Election Commission (EC) published a gazette notification detailing the names and addresses of the elected MPs in the 50 reserved seats for women in the 12th National Parliament.

According to the gazette signed by EC Secretary Md Zahangir, among the 50 new MPs, two are from the Jatiya Party and one from the Ganotantri Party, a partner of the 14-party alliance, while the remaining are from the Awami League.

As per the existing law, the parliamentary seats reserved for women are distributed to the parties in proportion to the seats they have won in the general elections.
