Object thrown near PM's vehicle in Madaripur, investigation underway
A stone-like object was seen falling in front of a vehicle in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's security convoy during his Barishal visit on Monday morning, July 13. The incident occurred around 8:30 am on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in the Sadhur Bridge bus stand area of Madaripur. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, and police are investigating whether it was accidental or intentional.
The nearly 1-minute-49-second video shows the Prime Minister's bus heading towards Barishal with multiple security vehicles. The PM was waving to people standing on both sides of the highway. At one point, a piece of brick or stone fell in front of the third vehicle behind the PM's bus.
Madaripur Superintendent of Police Habibur Rahman said a piece of stone fell in front of a convoy vehicle. He said they are analysing whether it was dislodged from another vehicle's tyre or intentionally thrown. He said there is no need to panic, and the investigation will reveal the actual cause.
The PM left Dhaka by road for Barishal on Monday morning and returned in the evening after a day-long programme.
