OC among five cops injured in gun attack during Padma river patrol

At least five members of the river police, including the officer-in-charge, were injured after being shot by armed assailants during a routine patrol on the Padma River.

The incident took place between 1:30am and 2:00am in the Haripur area along the Kushtia-Pabna river border on Tuesday (April 21).

According to police and local sources, a patrol team from Lakshmikunda River Police Outpost under Ishwardi in Pabna was conducting a routine river patrol when armed attackers suddenly opened fire on them. Police personnel returned fire in self-defence, triggering a brief exchange of gunfire.

The injured include Outpost In-Charge Khondaker Shafiqul Islam and officers Inamul Haque, Shahinur Haque, Nazmul Hasan, and Manik Mia.

They were initially taken to Pabna General Hospital, while one critically injured officer was later shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

All injured personnel are currently under medical supervision.

Additional Superintendent of Police Moshiur Rahman said extra police forces have been deployed in the area, and operations are underway to identify and arrest those involved.

Superintendent of Police Anwar Jahid said the matter is being closely monitored and assured that those responsible will be arrested soon.
