OC assigned to 527 police stations through lottery
Officers-in-charge for 527 police stations across the country have been assigned through a lottery. The process was completed before the announcement of the schedule for the thirteenth national election. Ahead of the lottery, unit chiefs submitted lists of qualified inspectors to ensure honest and impartial officers would serve during the election period. The lottery was conducted based on those lists.
Through this system, new OCs have been assigned to a total of 527 district-level police stations. The list mentions them as ‘proposed’. No metropolitan police station OCs were included under this arrangement.
In the range-wise deployment, Dhaka Range covers 98 stations across 13 districts, Chattogram Range 111 stations across 11 districts, Khulna Range 64 stations across 10 districts, Mymensingh Range 36 stations across 4 districts, Barishal Range 46 stations across 6 districts, Sylhet Range 39 stations across 4 districts, Rajshahi Range 71 stations across 8 districts and Rangpur Range 62 stations across 8 districts.
The Police Headquarters said the country has a total of 639 police stations, including 527 at district level and 110 in metropolitan areas. The 110 metropolitan stations will not undergo a lottery; their OCs will be assigned internally by the respective metropolitan commissioners.
Earlier, on November 26, the home ministry assigned superintendents of police to all 64 districts through a lottery, as per a notification signed by deputy secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman.
