OC who abused female victim withdrawn
In the wake of various complaints and criticism, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Patharghata Police Station in Barguna, Mohammad Enamul Haque has been withdrawn from his current place of work and attached to the Superintendent of Police's office.
In an order signed by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) and Superintendent of Police (Acting) F. M. Faisal, OC Mohammad Enamul Haque has been withdrawn from Patharghata Police Station and attached to the Superintendent of Police's office, Barguna until further orders.
Although the office order did not mention any specific reason for the withdrawal, there are several serious allegations against Enamul Haque at the local level. Recently, a woman named Fatima Jamaddar Orpa alleged that she was humiliated by the OC while filing a case against a BNP leader. The victim claimed that she was being delayed and harassed in accepting the case despite clear instructions from the court.
An audio of OC Enamul Haque's conversation with Fatima Jamaddar Orpa also went viral on social media. It generated widespread criticism. It is alleged that the OC used offensive language in that conversation.
According to the case sources, Fatima Jamaddar Orpa filed a case in the Barguna Acid Crime Suppression Tribunal in an acid-related incident. It is alleged that there was a delay in registering it at the police station even after the court ordered the case to be accepted as a complaint.
Later, although the accused was arrested, there were allegations that he was later released. Then, an attack took place on the victim, the video of which is said to have spread on social media.
The victim Orpa complained that she did not receive a response even after contacting the police station several times to inquire about the progress of the case. Later, when she contacted the OC from her personal number, she was subjected to disrespectful behavior.
In the viral phone conversation, the OC can be heard saying, "Are you that bitch? What a evil force!" This has generated severe criticism. The issue also caused outrage at the local level.
However, although the police administration transferred him to the Barguna Superintendent of Police's office, the office order did not mention any specific reason; it only said that action was being taken for 'administrative reasons'.
The victim, Orpa, welcomed the decision and said that such behavior from a responsible officer is unacceptable and expressed her gratitude to the authorities concerned for taking prompt action.
