Occupying leguna stand: 1 shot to death, 4 injured
At least one person was killed and four others received bullet injuries on Friday afternoon in a clash between two groups of miscreants over establishing supremacy at a leguna stand at Shasongachha bus stand in Cumilla city.
The injured were admitted to Cumilla Medical College and Hospital. Police have arrested three people for alleged involvement in the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Jamil Hasan Arnab (30), son of Azhar Uddin. He is a resident from Madhyampara neighbourhood in the city.
Arnab, manager of Satata bus service, is a student of Cumilla Victoria College, said Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Firoz Hossain.
Locals said that the clash, between Rabbi Alauddin group from Molla Bari in Shasongachha and Abul Kashem group from Madhampara in Shasongachha, erupted on Friday afternoon centring the occupation of the leguna stand beside Shasongachha bus stand. After the Zuma prayers on Friday, Chhatra League activists Rabbi and Alauddin shot Arnab at the bus terminal. Later, a bloody clash of shooting started between the two groups.
Superintendent of Police (SP) in Cumilla Abdul Mannan said, “The incident is not a political one. The clash began from an altercation between two people from Molla Bari and Dafadar Bari in the locality. One was later killed in a clash between the two sides and several others were injured. Police have arrested three people for involvement in the incident.
