Offices, courts, banks and stock market to reopen Monday after Eid holidays
The week-long Eid-ul-Azha holiday comes to an end on Sunday, with government and private offices, courts, banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, and the country's stock markets set to resume regular operations on Monday (June 1).
The government had declared a seven-day holiday from May 25 to May 31 for Eid-ul-Azha. Combined with the weekly weekend, millions of public and private sector employees enjoyed an extended break before returning to work this week.
From Monday, government, semi-government, autonomous and private institutions across the country will reopen and resume normal activities. Banking operations will also return to regular schedules, while trading is set to restart at both the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE).
Meanwhile, the post-Eid return rush to the capital has gained momentum, with thousands of people traveling back to Dhaka from different parts of the country by road, rail and waterways. As a result, traffic volume on major roads and transport hubs in the capital has gradually increased.
Officials and business leaders expect the first working day after the holiday to be relatively light in terms of attendance and workload. However, administrative, financial and commercial activities are likely to accelerate throughout the week as institutions work to clear backlogs accumulated during the extended break.
With offices, courts, banks and markets reopening, normal administrative and economic activities are expected to regain full momentum across the country, marking a return to routine operations following the Eid holiday period.
