Oil tanker catches fire in Chattogram

A sudden fire broke out on an oil tanker anchored at the outer anchorage of the Chattogram seaport. The ship named 'MT Meghna Trader' caught fire at 7:25am on Thursday (May 28).

The Bangladesh Coast Guard launched an operation to control the fire immediately after receiving the news of the fire. Multiple specialized units are working to quickly bring the situation under control at sea.

The Coast Guard Eastern Zone Media Control Room confirmed the matter and said that maximum efforts are being made to control the fire and the situation is being closely monitored.

According to Coast Guard sources, two ships 'Shyamol Bangla' and 'BCGT Promatta' have taken part in the rescue and firefighting operations. In addition, two firefighting teams including BCG Base Chattogram, BCG Outpost Patenga and a high-speed boat have been deployed at the scene.

Efforts to control the fire have been going on for several hours so far. However, authorities could not immediately confirm what caused the fire and the extent of the damage.
