One killed in Banani accident, road block causes expressway jam
A female garment worker was killed in a road accident in capital's Banani, and in protest, workers from two garment factories have blocked the road in the area. This has caused severe traffic congestion in Banani, Mohakhali, and Gulshan areas.
According to the Gulshan Traffic Department, a woman lost her life in a road accident at the Chairman Bari U-turn around 6.00am on Monday. Another female garment worker was injured in the incident. However, it is still unclear which vehicle was involved in the accident. The police and relevant authorities are investigating the cause of the accident and are working to restore normal traffic flow.
Following the accident, garment workers blocked both sides of the road at Chairmanbari, causing traffic to halt on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. They also blocked the ramp of the elevated expressway at Banani, preventing vehicles from exiting onto Banani roads. As a result, there is severe traffic congestion on the expressway.
Rasel Sarwar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, said, "Since morning, garment workers have been blocking the road. This has caused severe traffic congestion. The police are trying to persuade them to remove the blockade. Additionally, extra police have been deployed to prevent any unwanted incidents."
