One killed in clash over Eid prayer Imam selection in Rajshahi

A man named Alauddin, 56, has been killed in a clash between two groups over the selection of an Imam for Eid prayers in Mohanpur upazila, Rajshahi.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Saturday, March 7, in Sankoa village of Keshorhat municipality under the upazila. The deceased, Alauddin, was the son of late Mala Box of Sankoa village.

A motorcycle was also set on fire during the clash. Fire service personnel later arrived and extinguished the fire.

Following the incident, tension prevails in the area as both groups remain positioned face to face. Additional police have been deployed in the area.

According to local sources, a meeting was held in the evening to select the Imam for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at an Eidgah in Sankoa village. Tension spread between two groups over the issue, which escalated into a fight.

Mohanpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge SM Moinuddin said Alauddin died in a clash between two groups over the appointment of an Imam for Eid prayers at the Eidgah field. The body is at the deceased's home. Police are present at the scene. Legal action will be taken regarding this incident.
