One killed in cylinder blast in freezing van at Gabtoli

A young man named Imran Hossain, 25, was killed in a cylinder explosion in a fish-carrying freezing van near the Dwipnagar fish market in Gabtoli, Dhaka. The driver of the van, Md Faruk Hossain, 40, was seriously injured and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The accident occurred around 8pm on Saturday, August 8, in front of a refrigerator shop in the Dwipnagar area. After the explosion, Imran and Faruk were rescued in critical condition and first taken to a local hospital. As their condition deteriorated, they were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Imran Hossain dead around 11pm.

Imran's cousin Delwar Hossain Sabuj said Imran and several others worked at the refrigerator shop in the Dwipnagar area. On Saturday night, a freezing van used for transporting fish was being repaired in front of the shop. At the same time, gas was being filled into the van's freezing system. Suddenly, the cylinder exploded with a loud sound, leaving Imran and the driver Faruk seriously injured.

After the accident, locals quickly rescued them and arranged for them to be taken to a local hospital. They were later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated. Imran died while undergoing treatment there. The driver Faruk's condition is said to be critical.

Deceased Imran Hossain was a resident of Erendra village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district. His father's name is Sarwar Molla. He worked at the refrigerator shop in Gabtoli for a living.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police camp, confirmed Imran's death. He said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.

The cause of the cylinder explosion and whether any safety protocols were followed during the gas filling will be determined after investigation.
