A powerful explosion at a motorcycle parts warehouse in Old Dhaka's Bangshal early Friday (July 10) left one person dead and another critically injured.

The blast took place around 4:30am in the Mukim Bazar area, causing part of the warehouse to collapse.

The deceased, Delowar Hossain, 35, from Sharsha in Jashore, was trapped beneath the debris and later declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The injured, Nazmul Hossain, 33, Delowar's cousin, sustained severe burn injuries and is receiving treatment at the DMCH National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.

According to witnesses, the explosion occurred at a motorcycle parts warehouse behind Halim Motors in Shia Goli, where the force of the blast brought down part of a wall, trapping the victims.

Dhaka Medical Police Outpost In-charge Inspector Md. Faruk said, "It is initially believed that the explosion occurred due to gas leakage. The body of the deceased has been kept at the emergency department morgue for autopsy and the matter has been informed to Bangshal Police Station."
