One killed in Jamuna Bridge bus crash, traffic halted
One person was killed and at least seven others injured after a bus rear-ended another bus on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Jamuna Bridge, the gateway to North Bengal. The accident caused a complete halt of traffic on the bridge, leading to long queues of vehicles on both ends.
The incident occurred around 9:00 pm on Friday, June 5, near pillar number 7 of the Jamuna Bridge, creating a tailback stretching approximately 15 kilometres on the western side of the bridge towards the Sirajganj highway.
Rescue vehicles were deployed to remove the damaged buses. The injured were taken to various hospitals. The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Jamuna Bridge West Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Amirul Islam confirmed the accident.
