One killed in Jhenaidah clash over motorcycle horn dispute

A man was killed in a clash between two groups in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah following an altercation over motorcycle horn use, police and local sources said.

The deceased was identified as Delwar Biswas, 45, son of Khybar Biswas of Harishpur village in Joradah union.

The incident occurred at a place called Baraitola in the Harishpur and Pakhimara area, where people from different villages had gathered to enjoy Eid festivities on Thursday evening.

According to police and witnesses, an argument broke out between two individuals over motorcycle horn usage and giving way on the road. The dispute quickly escalated into tension between residents of Harishpur and Pakhimara villages, eventually turning into a violent clash involving locally made weapons.

Delwar Biswas was injured during the confrontation. Locals later rescued him and took him to the upazila health complex, from where he was referred to Kushtia Sadar Hospital due to his critical condition. He was pronounced dead around 8:00pm while undergoing treatment.

Several others were injured in the clash, including Shuvo, 22, son of Atiar Rahman; Abu Taleb, 55, son of Biku Mandal; and Mahabur of Vaina village. They are currently receiving treatment at Kushtia Sadar Hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Harinakundu Police Station Asit Kumar confirmed the incident, saying the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. He added that no case had been filed yet, but legal action would be taken once a complaint is received.
