One missing after boat hits Lalon Shah Bridge pillar in Pabna

One person remains missing after a boat carrying three people hit a pillar of Lalon Shah Bridge in the Padma River near Pakshi in Ishwardi of Pabna.

The accident took place around 7pm when the boat, travelling from the Hardinge Bridge area towards Lalon Shah Bridge, struck one of the bridge pillars on Friday evening (September 11).

All three passengers fell into the river following the impact.

River Police and Fire Service personnel launched a rescue operation and managed to rescue two passengers alive. The search for the remaining person was continuing.

The passengers were identified as Rocky, son of late Hasan Ali of Kabirpur village in Jhenaidah's Shailkupa upazila, Liton, son of Bidyut from the same area, and Wahab.

Khandaker Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of the Laxmikunda River Police Outpost, said the boat carrying the tourists hit the bridge pillar, causing all three passengers to fall into the water.

“Two of them have been rescued alive. The River Police and Fire Service are continuing their operation to rescue the remaining missing person,” he said.
