Ongoing national crises are part of drama, people want to vote: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “All the ongoing crises in the country are part of a drama. Ordinary people do not understand all these matters, they only want to vote.”

He made the remarks as the chief guest on Sunday afternoon at an exchange meeting with residents of Jagannathpur Union at Daulatpur Girls’ High School ground in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, “BNP is the party of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia. We believe in words and actions, not hypocrisy.”

He said, “A massacre took place on August 5, 2024. There was also a massacre in 1971. The difference is that in 1971, Pakistanis conducted the massacre with the help of some locals, whereas this time Sheikh Hasina carried out the massacre through her administration.”

The BNP secretary general said, “The current government is not an elected one. That is why it does not understand people’s suffering. Farmers are not getting fair prices for paddy or vegetables. Potatoes remain unsold in cold storages. Farmers are not getting sufficient fertiliser for cultivation. BNP will solve all these problems if it returns to power.”

He said, “When BNP comes to power, women will be given family cards that will allow them to buy oil, rice, and lentils at fair prices. Farmers will be provided with agricultural cards through which they will regain their rightful benefits.”

Mirza Fakhrul further said, “A referendum must be held on election day. What do we understand by referendum certificate? The public does not understand such things, only educated people do. We agree to all reforms except those that will be passed in parliament without our consent.”

He said, “You all know the scale symbol. The scale is also contesting the election here. You must choose between the sheaf of paddy and the scale. This is my last election. I may not have the strength to contest again. In my last election, please support me by voting for the sheaf of paddy.”

The meeting was presided over by Jagannathpur Union BNP President Tofazzal Hossain, and also attended by District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, General Secretary Paigam Ali, Municipal BNP President Shariful Islam Sharif, Sadar Upazila BNP President Abdul Hamid, General Secretary Mahbub Hossain Tuhin, among others.
