Online tax return filing not required for 5 groups of taxpayers
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has waived the mandatory online income tax return filing requirement for five groups of taxpayers.
The NBR issued a special order detailing these exemptions on Monday (August 11), signed by Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.
The taxpayers exempt from online filing include senior citizens aged 65 and above, individuals with physical disabilities or special needs (with valid certification), Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad, legal representatives of deceased taxpayers, and foreign nationals working in Bangladesh.
However, these groups may still opt to file their tax returns online if they wish.
All other taxpayers are required to file their returns online. Since August 3, online filing has been mandatory for all individual taxpayers across the country.
Taxpayers facing difficulties with online filing can apply to the relevant Deputy Commissioner of Taxes by October 31 to submit paper returns instead.
Last year, when online filing became mandatory for a limited group, over 17 lakh taxpayers submitted their returns electronically.
Taxpayers can easily pay their taxes and file returns from home using bank transfers or mobile financial services like bKash and Rocket.
