Only elected government can restore democracy: Shamsuzzaman Dudu

BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu has said that only an elected government can lead the country toward establishing democracy, not an unelected one.

Speaking as the chief guest at a citizens’ rally organised by "Desh Bachao, Manush Bachao Andolon" in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday (October 15), he urged the authorities to ensure public safety and visible justice for those responsible for violence and corruption during past movements.

Dudu said the country is facing multiple crises, and people now feel insecure under the interim government. He called on the administration to stand by the people and work toward forming a truly elected government.

He warned that appointments of DCs, SPs, and election officials under partisan influence would undermine democracy.

Criticizing India, he alleged that the neighbouring country has been exploiting Bangladesh for decades.

The BNP leader also urged for national unity to resist conspiracies and protect the country’s democratic achievements.
