Operation Devil Hunt: 100 more arrested in Gazipur

100 people, including a former member of parliament (MP), Awami League leader, have been arrested in the 'Devil Hunt' operation in Gazipur. The district police arrested 21 people and the metropolitan police arrested 79 people in the operation on Sunday night.

According to police sources, former Awami League MP from Sirajganj-6 constituency Chayan Islam and Kashimpur Police Station Ward No. 1 Awami League General Secretary Shamsul Alam Gayen, who were hiding, were arrested from Sreepur. In addition, the Gazipur Metropolitan Police arrested Anwara Sarkar, the president of the Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo Mohila League, from Uttara last night.

Gazipur District Police Superintendent Chowdhury Md. Jaber Sadek said on Monday morning that the Gazipur District Police arrested 21 people in the overnight operation. All of them are people from the previous Awami League government.

Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Special Branch of Gazipur Metropolitan Police, said that till midnight yesterday, police from eight police stations in the metropolis arrested 79 people from different areas. This brings the total number of arrests in Gazipur to 180 in the last two days.
