Operation underway to arrest assailants who shot Hadi: DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali has said a dragnet operation has begun to arrest the assailants who shot Sharif Osman bin Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha and an independent candidate for Dhaka-8 in the upcoming election.

He told the media on Friday, December 12, in the afternoon that Sharif Osman bin Hadi is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after being shot by unidentified gunmen, and his condition is very critical.

A dragnet is under way to catch those who opened fire on him. The DMP commissioner said the attackers will be tracked down and brought under the law wherever they are hiding. Along with the police, intelligence units and RAB are also working to arrest the perpetrators.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, armed men on a motorcycle fired at Sharif Osman bin Hadi while he was travelling in a rickshaw.

Md Harun Or Rashid, deputy commissioner of DMP’s Motijheel division, said preliminary findings suggest that Osman Hadi and another person were travelling by rickshaw when two men on a motorcycle approached them in the Kalvert Road area, opened fire at Osman Hadi, and fled. He said several police teams are working to learn the full details of the incident.
