Opposition deputy leader leaves circuit house after finding termites in room

Opposition Deputy Leader of Parliament Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher left the Cumilla Circuit House late Friday night (September 4) after finding termites across the room assigned to him, according to party sources.

Taher, also a lawmaker from Cumilla-11, had arrived in Cumilla from Dhaka to attend a long march organised by the 11-party alliance.

He was booked into room Radhachura-202 for the night.

According to party sources, Taher entered the room to rest around 10pm and found termites in several parts of the room, including on furniture and a blanket provided for his use. He asked the relevant staff to arrange another room and requested a replacement blanket.

However, an alternative room or an immediate solution could not be arranged. After waiting for some time without receiving effective assistance, Taher decided to leave the circuit house and spend the night elsewhere.

Several photographs purportedly showing termites in different parts of the room have since circulated on social media.

Cumilla Metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman said accommodation arrangements for VIP guests at the circuit house were in poor condition despite the building being modern and well-furnished.

He said Taher had to leave because an alternative room could not be arranged.

Attempts to obtain comments from Cumilla’s Nazir Deputy Collector were unsuccessful.
