Opposition leader congratulates newly elected President

Opposition leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has congratulated newly elected 23rd President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Shafiqur Rahman congratulated him in a post on social media after the announcement of Mirza Fakhrul’s name as President in the afternoon on Thursday (August 20).

Shafiqur Rahman expressed hope that Mirza Fakhrul will utilise his highest competence and wisdom in establishing justice, upholding democracy and protecting the independence and sovereignty of the country as the guardian of the state in the coming days.

He wished good health and long life to the newly elected President.

BNP candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir defeated the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmed to win the presidential election held on Thursday. Fakhrul got 255 votes out of a total of 343 valid votes. Oli Ahmed got 88 votes.
