Oprotim murder case: Two teens suspects to be sent to juvenile centre

Two teenage suspects in the murder of schoolboy Oprotim in Cumilla will be sent to a juvenile development centre in Gazipur because of their age, while two adult accused will remain in Cumilla jail.

The four accused were handed over to Cumilla Central Jail on Sunday night in connection with the murder case, said SI Saiful Islam, the investigation officer of Sadar Dakshin Model Police Station, on Monday (September 21).

The two teenagers—Mozammel Hossain Fahad, 15, and Kamrul Hasan, 16—will be transferred to the Tongi Child Development Centre in Gazipur with court approval, while Tuhin, 19, and Siam, 19, will remain in Cumilla jail, said jail authorities.

Oprotim, a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School in Kotbari, went missing from the area on Friday afternoon while reportedly using his mother’s iPhone to take photographs. His body was recovered the following day from bushes in Sananda village near Lalmai Hill, close to Cumilla University.

Police said they detained Tuhin after reviewing CCTV footage and later arrested three others based on information obtained from him. The four were produced before a Cumilla senior judicial magistrate’s court on Sunday and were subsequently shown arrested in the murder case.

Police said the accused later confessed to the killing during interrogation.
