Oprotim suffered severe head injury and other wounds: Police

Police have found evidence of a severe head injury and wounds on other parts of the body of Oprotim, 13, whose body was recovered from a wooded area near Cumilla University.

Police said they initially suspect that Oprotim died after sustaining a heavy blow to the head.

Sub-Inspector Saiful Islam prepared the inquest report after the body was recovered. A doctor involved in the autopsy said the preliminary assessment also indicated a head injury. Samples have been collected to determine whether Oprotim was strangled or given any sedative substance. The final cause of death will be established after the autopsy report is completed.

Police are questioning several detainees in connection with the incident. Cumilla Sadar South Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam said details could not yet be disclosed as the investigation was ongoing. He said Oprotim’s family was expected to file a case on Sunday.

Cumilla Detective Branch OC Mohammad Shamsul Alam Shah said the mystery surrounding the death had been solved and several suspects had been detained. The police superintendent was scheduled to brief the media on Sunday.

Oprotim’s body was recovered on Saturday afternoon from a wooded area in the Lalmai-Sananda hills near Cumilla University. Police suspect that the killing may have been linked to the theft of his mobile phone.

Tuhin was initially detained after police reviewed CCTV footage. Based on information obtained during questioning, police later detained Anas and Fahim Ahmed.

Oprotim was a seventh-grade student at Border Guard Public School in Cumilla. He left home at around 3:30pm on Friday, telling his family that he was going out with friends to take photographs.

His father, businessman KM Firoz Shahriar, subsequently filed a general diary at Sadar South Police Station. About 21 hours later, police recovered Oprotim’s body from the wooded area.
