Our goal is to change people's fate: Prime Minister
Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman has said the current government is a government of the people. The government will try to stand by farmers, mothers and sisters, imams and khatibs of mosques, and all sections of people. "Our goal is the development of the country. Our goal is to change the fate of the people. That is why we say 'Korbo kaj, gorbo desh, shobar age Bangladesh'," he said.
The prime minister made these remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Krishak Card distribution programme at Shaheed Maruf Stadium in Tangail on Tuesday afternoon, April 14.
He said 40 per cent of the country's people are involved with agriculture. "I may not be involved with agriculture, but someone in my family is involved with agriculture. Four crore families in Bangladesh have someone involved with agriculture. The main profession of this country is agriculture. If the farmers of this country are prosperous, if they survive, if they are well, then the whole of Bangladesh will be well. The people of Bangladesh will be well," he added.
Tarique Rahman said, "We want to deliver the benefits of the Krishak Card to 22,000 farmers in the first phase. Today we have inaugurated the promise we made to the people of this country. Among the promises made to the people before the election was the Krishak Card promise. In the first week after the election, we waived Tk 10,000 of agricultural loans for farmers. That was also among our promises."
He said 20,000 kilometres of canals will be excavated in the next five years. "Our goal is to excavate canals so that we can retain excess water during floods for later use. Now is the time to build the country. Alongside making women self-reliant, the current government will implement the promises made to the people before the election," he added.
Tarique Rahman said, "We had promised that if we were able to form a government, we would introduce a family card for the mothers and sisters of Bangladesh. By the grace of Allah, we have been able to start the pilot project for that work. In the next five years, we will try to deliver the benefits of this card to all female-headed households."
