Over 50 injured in Argentina-Brazil fan clash in Habiganj
At least 50 people, including women, were injured in a fierce clash between Argentina and Brazil football fans in Habiganj.
The incident took place on Wednesday morning, June 3, in the Kashipur village of Lokra union under Sadar upazila. The situation escalated, spreading panic in the area, before locals and concerned authorities brought it under control. Several critically injured were sent to Sylhet for advanced treatment.
According to local sources, a friendly match between Argentina and Brazil supporters was held on Tuesday afternoon. After Brazil lost 2-0, the commentator made an announcement over the microphone, sparking an argument between the two groups. Locals resolved the matter that day.
However, on Wednesday morning, both groups resumed arguing and later clashed with local weapons. The clash lasted about an hour, leaving at least 50 people injured. The injured were taken to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, with several critical cases referred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Sadar Model Police Station OC Md Zahidul Haque said police were sent to the spot upon receiving information, and the situation is now calm.
