Over 55,000 domestic, 500 international observers to monitor upcoming polls
A total of 55,454 domestic observers from 81 registered local organisations and nearly 500 international observers will monitor Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th National Parliament election and referendum.
Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah shared the figures during a briefing at Hotel Westin in Dhaka on Sunday (January 25).
Among the others, heads of diplomatic missions, UN agency representatives, and senior government officials were attend the briefing.
The Election Commission later confirmed the numbers in an official press release signed by Director (Public Relations) Ruhul Amin Mallik.
A total of 51 political parties are contesting the election, with 1,994 candidates, including 256 independents. Voting is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, from 7:30am to 4:30pm, using ballot papers and transparent ballot boxes to ensure a fair and orderly process.
