Over 600 Rohingya detained outside camps in Cox’s Bazar
More than 600 Rohingya living illegally outside refugee camps have been detained in a joint forces operation in Balukhali and surrounding areas of Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar and handed over to refugee camps.
The operation began at dawn on Sunday, February 8.
Major Ahsanul Haque Sourav, deputy commander of the Army’s 9 Bengal Regiment, said Rohingya residing outside camps are being identified and detained. The operation is still ongoing and further action will be taken in accordance with the law.
Earlier, joint forces detained five Rohingya in several drives from Dohazari in Chattogram and sent them back to their respective camps.
Local administration sources said regular drives are being conducted to prevent unrestricted movement and settlement of Rohingya outside camps. Such operations will continue to maintain security and law and order.
