Overall economic situation of the country remains stable: Governor

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur has said that the overall economic situation of the country is currently stable. He believes that if political stability continues, the economy will progress even better.

He made the comment on Saturday November 8 while addressing as the chief guest at a regional seminar on “MFI–Bank Linkage” held at Water Garden Resort in Tangail. The event was organised by the Microcredit Regulatory Authority (MRA).

The seminar was arranged to explore ways to make banking services more accessible to the rural poor.

Regarding the progress in repatriating laundered money, Governor Ahsan H Mansur said, “Various banks have sent lawyers to England. They are working to establish the legal basis for the claims of different groups of companies there. If successful, we expect to see positive results very soon.”

The seminar was chaired by MRA Executive Vice-Chairman Dr Mohammad Helal Uddin. Other speakers included Sonali Bank Managing Director Shawkat Ali Khan, BRAC Bank Additional Managing Director Syed Abdul Momen and several other guests.

Chairmen and representatives of various NGOs and microfinance institutions across the country were also present.
