Owner's throat-slit body recovered from jewellery shop in Gazipur

Police has recovered the throat-slit body of businessman Md Abul Kalam Azad, 40, from inside a jewellery shop in Gacha area of Gazipur metropolis. The body was recovered from ‘Sadia Jewellers’ on Abdul Gani Road in Bhushir Mill area under Gacha Police Station around noon on Sunday (August 23). The deceased Abul Kalam Azad was the owner of the shop. His home is in Bholain village of Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla.

Local and police sources said Abul Kalam Azad had slept inside his jewellery shop on Saturday night as usual. He usually opened the shop in the morning and started business. However, businessmen nearby found the shop closed even after morning turned into noon on Sunday.

They became suspicious as no response was received from inside the shop for a long time. Later a neighbouring shopkeeper informed the matter by calling national emergency service number 999.

On receiving the information, Gacha Police Station police went to the spot and recovered the throat-slit body of Abul Kalam Azad from inside the shop. Later the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police and senior officials of the administration went to the spot and collected various evidence.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gacha Police Station under Gazipur Metropolitan Police Golam Rabbani said who are involved with the murder is being looked into. Police is investigating the incident with importance.

The body has been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for autopsy after recovery. Investigation is underway to identify the cause of the murder and those involved.
