More than 43,000 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge in the last 24 hours, generating toll revenue exceeding Tk 48.01 million during the ongoing Eid-ul-Azha holiday travel surge.

Officials confirmed the figures, noting that a total of 43,351 vehicles used the bridge during the period on Tuesday morning.

According to Bangladesh Bridge Authority sources, 28,067 vehicles crossed from the Mawa end, generating Tk 26.42 million in tolls, while 15,284 vehicles crossed from the Jajira end, contributing Tk 21.59 million.

Authorities said the volume of traffic and toll collection has increased compared to Eid-ul-Fitr, reflecting heavy outbound movement as people travel to their hometowns for the holiday.

The bridge had previously recorded higher single-day traffic during past Eid periods, including a peak of 52,487 vehicles during the 2025 Eid-ul-Azha period.

The Padma Bridge, the country’s longest, connects Munshiganj and Shariatpur districts and provides direct road connectivity between the capital Dhaka and the southwestern region, serving commuters from 21 districts.

Officials noted that the introduction of electronic toll collection (ETC) using RFID cards has significantly reduced congestion at toll plazas, allowing vehicles to pass without stopping.
An engineer of the Padma Bridge said that Eid-ul-Azha typically sees higher traffic than Eid-ul-Fitr due to increased homebound travel and livestock transport.

Traffic police also reported a relatively smooth Eid journey so far, despite heavy vehicle pressure on the roads.
