Pahela Baishakh procession to be named 'Baishakhi Shobhajatra' from now: Cultural minister

The procession for celebrating Bengali New Year will henceforth be called 'Baishakhi Shobhajatra', Cultural Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury has said.

The minister made the announcement at the foundation stone laying ceremony of a modern district Dak Bungalow in Mohammadpur, Magura on Saturday, April 4.

"There is no fundamental difference between Mangal Shobhajatra and Anondo Shobhajatra. However, the New Year celebration procession will be called Baishakhi Shobhajatra from now on," the minister said.

Nitai Roy further noted, "Bengali New Year is a long-standing cultural tradition of Bengalis. It does not belong to any particular party. Everyone, from farmers to ordinary people, enjoy its festivities."

District Council Administrator Alia Ahmed presided over the event. Magura-1 MP Monwar Hossain Khan, District Administrator Abdullah Al Mahmud and Police Superintendent Molla Azad were present.
