Pakistan High Commissioner in Dhaka on indefinite leave
Syed Ahmed Maroof, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, has gone on indefinite leave.
According to multiple media reports quoting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maroof has been on leave since May 11 and is currently outside Bangladesh. No official reason has been given for his sudden and open-ended departure.
The development comes amid a backdrop of delicate bilateral relations, raising questions about the current state of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
In his absence, Deputy High Commissioner Muhammad Asif has assumed the role of Acting High Commissioner in Dhaka.
Syed Ahmed Maroof took charge of his duties in Dhaka after presenting his credentials to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin on December 7, 2023.
